Already?!<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Last year was
the first time we created Christmas Card Kits. Little bundles of holiday goodness all ready and waiting for your creative time. Kits included all the cardstock and patterned paper, coordinating envelopes as well as all the fun embellishment bits to create 3 of the same card. And what would a kit be without instructions?! We've included detailed instruction sheets for each of the three styles. They were hugely successful. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Our Spring Retreat was a small and cozy event. We had a
grand total of 17 retreaters attend our Casablanca, Morocco themed event. You can see by the photos below that we
had a fantastic time; a great group of ladies. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

I find I always get a lot of questions about what kinds to use and what the differences are between dye ink and pigment ink. <br />
<br />
A while back I came across this great video by Jennifer McGuire - stamper extraordinaire - and thought I would share it with you today. Jennifer walks you through the differences and demonstrates samples of each. She also talks about Chalk Ink, Distress Ink as well as Versa Mark and shares her favourite white, black and silver inks. <br />
<br />
This is a great video, well worth your 23 minutes viewing time. <br />

I was looking back through some older layouts the other day (in all honesty, I was cleaning up my scrapbook room and needed to put away a pile of layouts into albums) and I came across these two layouts I created as part of an assignment for a Design Team and later morphed into class during a retreat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was reminded that I really do enjoy scrapbooking. I love the art of combining photos with stories and of course... the fun extras you get to add to the page. I found the inspiration I needed to get out some photos I haven't yet scrapbooked and make something. (more on this in a future post) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg77cArdLlnMnaKdlrSn7XZCPkU6_QFOOVS-cUkUn1EaDrhZ9dCUHl8ciyZ_SZ9CIS9zUPUfzOvWbZZ4-cmT2bS_sehtsAN9Dw_jiy6W9kIstokFH60250VbSL2vYpn3CxBHmFt5bZbuHpm/s1600/183.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg77cArdLlnMnaKdlrSn7XZCPkU6_QFOOVS-cUkUn1EaDrhZ9dCUHl8ciyZ_SZ9CIS9zUPUfzOvWbZZ4-cmT2bS_sehtsAN9Dw_jiy6W9kIstokFH60250VbSL2vYpn3CxBHmFt5bZbuHpm/s1600/183.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the colour combos in this 'All You Need Is Love" layout. The red here just steals my heart! I love love LOVE it!! And the turquoise and lime green - GASP! Wow... it just pops doesn't it?<br />
<br />
See that heart on the bottom left? That's shaped from red wire and adhered to the page with thread. I love that heart too. And those flags!! I love that cluster of flags. The variety of shapes and different papers. This was a simple layout and didn't take much time to put together...... but I love it. And I'm so glad I took the time to create it. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9qterdlmL40tp28_JBzqihonxhSb16lWad2YmPyDn_iQETWlG94v4LfM8rH1fr54S2o58dBXl98HAl8O4DLgtUET8Oz7tDkqaRT3oMesvtKajZMsNTO-k4w8dR0kErYu8c2vqNCvOILaH/s1600/182.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9qterdlmL40tp28_JBzqihonxhSb16lWad2YmPyDn_iQETWlG94v4LfM8rH1fr54S2o58dBXl98HAl8O4DLgtUET8Oz7tDkqaRT3oMesvtKajZMsNTO-k4w8dR0kErYu8c2vqNCvOILaH/s1600/182.jpg" height="200" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This 'Make A Wish' layout was fun to create. I remember I had recently purchased that Martha Stewart border punch that cuts the fancy scallop at the bottom. And that tone on tone flower paper is flocked... so it's fuzzy to touch. (tell me that's not fun!!) <br />
<br />
Those pictures of my youngest at the playground; we have so many of those kind of photo, I didn't want to create yet <u>another</u> fun at the park layout. So, I took a queue from the patterned paper and during a bedtime snuggle asked my daughter what she would wish for. I made notes of the green Jeep she would buy, and how she would live forever at Great Wolf Lodge! LOL!! All the journaling is hidden on a card behind those red flowers on the right. I was able to capture her feelings and greatest wishes at a specific age. Something I'm sure she will enjoy looking back at in another 10+ years. {smile}. <br />
<br />
What about you? Maybe you need to take a look back at some of the layouts you've created to find the inspiration to keep going. Maybe it's a simple page like mine above. Maybe you need to take some snuggle time and make a list or two.<br />
<br />
Either way, spending a bit of time looking back could be just what you need to push you forward. <br />
<br />
Enjoy,<br />

but you get what I’m sayin’. And of course they didn’t have iPads or PVR’s

<span style="font-family: Calibri;">The daughters of my Mom’s church friends were a few years

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I made sweaters for myself; I made sweaters for boyfriends –
if they stayed around and were ‘worthy’ enough. I remember travelling up north in
the car; knitting the last few rows on a sweater I was going to give Steve for our

so I was able to keep it a surprise. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I didn’t knit anything for my kids, at
least when they were babies – no time I guess. So there was a break, a knitting
lull you could say, when my kids were little. </span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Then a few years ago, I saw a knitted bag one of the
scrapbook ‘celebrities’ had posted on their blog. I just had to make one for
myself – there’s that craft envy again. The bag was knit with 100% wool and
then washed in the machine and what came out was this amazing rainbow of felted
goodness. I was hooked!!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I’ve created at least 8 bags and purses since. I discovered alpaca wool while making these bags. Rich vibrant colours and the texture is fabulous. Those I haven't gifted away are living in the top of the closet of my craft studio right now in various stages of 'not finished-ness'. That little fabric flower desperately needs a button in the center ... as well as a few friends. {wink}</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span></div>

</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">In the summer of 2011 when our family vacationed out west I
stumbled across this little yarn shop in Tafino, BC. They had some of the
prettiest yarn I’ve ever seen. I came home with a suitcase filled with it – no idea
what I was going to make with it all mind you but I just <u>had</u> to have it.
Skeins of soft red wool, a few bundles of fluffy purple and pink variegated yarn, this amazing chunky
rich brown with hand felted flowers….sigh… it was wonderful. And it was a way
back in a little corner of the shop that I first saw this felted bird house – I fell
in LOVE instantly! In talking to the store owner I got the name of the pattern
and where I could download it. I could hardly wait to get home to Ontario so I could
start!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><o:p></o:p></span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I’ve since made a dozen of these felted flower bird houses –
I love the colours of the petals – I love mixing a variegated and solid yarn together
to get a variation in colour. I love the way the petals droop too! And that
stem! You can't really see it in the picture below but there is a little felted leaf at the end. EEEK! I just can’t get
enough!! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Right now I have a cluster of these hanging on the door knob of my studio closet. They look so fun! How cool would it be to have one of these beauties hanging on the door knob to your front hall closet or powder room come spring? You could even add a little 'fake' bird peeping out if you wanted to. {smile}</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivKwgxoxnVsuLQQv6Wyhyphenhyphen0sWtCA0dVouA0BtXsfDkCuTahqiQ0EVW3B4PChmb7xbej31rh16nwWuzUeQXyh8pDEaXZT4HF4v52G0ax8YcRDE56ENqy4bm8Hkm1rQHnd_SnqsEhzWSpGc3-/s1600/Knitted+Bird+House.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivKwgxoxnVsuLQQv6Wyhyphenhyphen0sWtCA0dVouA0BtXsfDkCuTahqiQ0EVW3B4PChmb7xbej31rh16nwWuzUeQXyh8pDEaXZT4HF4v52G0ax8YcRDE56ENqy4bm8Hkm1rQHnd_SnqsEhzWSpGc3-/s1600/Knitted+Bird+House.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I have yet to hang one outside; to see if indeed foul will
flock to these hand felted lovelies; in part because we don’t have a lot of mature
trees in our neighbourhood. But this spring if you happen to wander past you
will see my little subdivision of floppy petalled birdhouses hanging from the
branches of our Maple.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I was at my favourite local yarn shop last week and splurged on some more 'to die for' yarn. I can't wait to finish my housework at night so I can snuggle into the sofa, turn on Downton Abbey and knit a few rows before going to bed. Going to bed too late of course but the dark circles around my eyes are worth it when I open the lid to the washing machine and pull out a damp felted flower birdhouse with droopy pink petals. Nothing makes me happier!</span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Enjoy,</span></div>

You can find some previous examples <a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2012/05/one-page-sketch.html" target="_blank"> <b>here</b></a>, <a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2012/04/one-page-sketch.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a> and <a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2012/04/sketch-support-blog-hop.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a><b>.</b> <br />
<br />
My hands-down, absolute favourite are <a href="http://www.allisonrdavis.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank"><b>Allison Davis</b></a> Sketches, and that's not just 'cause I was on the <b>Sketch Support Creative Team</b> at one point! LOL! Check out some past projects for <b>Sketch Support</b> <a href="http://www.sketchsupport.blogspot.ca/2012/05/two-page-week-part-3.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a>, <a href="http://www.sketchsupport.blogspot.ca/2012/04/add-on-week-part-1.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a> and <a href="http://www.sketchsupport.blogspot.ca/2011/10/two-page-week-part-4.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a>. <br />
<br />
Allison makes it so easy. In all her Sketches she gives you the measurements, placement and variation options for each layout as well as reference to how many photos you'll need. It's like getting multiple sketches in one. How great is that?!? The possibilities are endless. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.sketchsupport.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank"><b>Sketch Support</b></a> has morphed into Sketch Week. Recently Allison asked me, along with some other past CT Members, if we would want to help promote Sketch Week. Of course I said YES!!<br />
<br />
You can purchase and download all the Sketches for August <a href="http://allisonrdavis.blogspot.ca/2013/08/download-day-is-here.html" target="_blank"><b>here</b></a>, even the <a href="http://store.scrapbookgeneration.com/downloadables" target="_blank"><b>FREE one</b></a> I based my layout on. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
You can see I followed the sketch almost to the letter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
My main photo is 4x4, I used two smaller photos but trimmed them to 2.5x2.5, a bit larger than in the sketch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Instead of hearts I used some ancient Heidi Swapp chipboard. The two photo corners around the main photo and the itty-bitty heart at the bottom right. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
My title is larger too, so I modified the location to suit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
See that dark strip along the bottom of my layout? Well, that's there to correct a little mistake. Check back later this week and I'll take you through the journey of how I created this page and even show you how I fixed it. {wink} </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This was such a quick project, it took no time at all and it really gave me the push I needed to get these photos scrapbooked.Check one more layout off my list!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I can't wait for the September's Sketch. I know before it even reaches my In-box it's going to be AWESOME!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Enjoy,</div>

The July session of our <strong>Three of a Kind</strong> card class is scheduled for this Saturday night, July 20th starting at 7pm. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You may remember the June session of <strong>Three of a Kind</strong> where we made <a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2013/06/3-of-kind.html" target="_blank"><strong>spinner cards</strong></a>. They turned out (pun intended) great!!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This month we are using the ever so popular <a href="http://www.thecraftersworkshop.com/The_Crafters_Workshop/New_Products.html" target="_blank"><strong>stencil</strong></a> and Distressed Ink on three different cards. I'm going to show you a <u>brand new technique</u> I'm almost sure you've never seen before. It's going to give you a whole new perspective on what you can do with those yummy patterned stencils..... So much so, you'll be buying up more of them! I guarantee it!! {wink}</div>

Just like our <b><a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2013/06/3-of-kind.html" target="_blank">Three of a Kind card classes</a></b>, our LAM classes will be offered once per month.<br />
<br />
During each LAM class you will create a lovely double page layout. All the supplies are included, just bring along your basic tool kit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Whether you are looking for a kick start in your creativity or just a night out with the girls we promise to make the effort worth your while!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZnL1w14W2jZQpllqQ3yICzxGWSk9okAUJXNFnvs0DvbnBQDxF6Elnb1ccj1rPDIPh6iay2iWEN-BQxgfmjbA3blA6-93ZS2F0uv1HsQe4TuaSYMV0obhHHtGDCWoxOa0MDLVUVxSFOgoO/s1600/sample.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZnL1w14W2jZQpllqQ3yICzxGWSk9okAUJXNFnvs0DvbnBQDxF6Elnb1ccj1rPDIPh6iay2iWEN-BQxgfmjbA3blA6-93ZS2F0uv1HsQe4TuaSYMV0obhHHtGDCWoxOa0MDLVUVxSFOgoO/s320/sample.jpg" width="241" /></a></div>
<br />
July's LAM class has a Parisian flair in delicate pinks, black, cream and red. This layout features custom fabric flowers, sheet music and a dress pattern. A fuzzy alpha sticker set is included as well as hat pins, decorative chipboard and zipper trim. Plus, you'll test drive a <b><a href="http://weronthenet.com/lucky8punch" target="_blank">Lucky 8 Punch</a></b> from We R Memory Keepers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
August's LAM class is for photos of all the boys in your life, both big & small. This layout features epoxy brads in fun and whimsical colours with co-ordinating papers that will 'drive' you wild! We put a spin on the classic banner and learn how to remedy the common sticker 'sneeze'. Of course a layout wouldn't be complete these days if it didn't take advantage of the ever so popular <b><a href="http://www.thecraftersworkshop.com/The_Crafters_Workshop/New_Products.html" target="_blank">stencil</a></b>. We'll be using ink and spray mist with our stencils during class. <br />
<br />
For information about either our LAM or Three of a Kind classes, check out the <b><a href="http://www.thekitcompany.ca/pages/learn.htm" target="_blank">Learn page</a></b> of our website or email me at <b><a href="mailto:jckincaid@bell.net" target="_blank">classes@thekitcompany.ca</a></b><br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Classes and workshops are fewer and further between as people are out of town or busy with family and friends. You want to be outdoors taking pictures not stuck inside glueing and pasting. And who can blame you?!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So this summer, to keep me interested and busy doing SOMETHING creative I've enrolled myself in a few online classes. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm super excited about <a href="http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/phone-photography.php" target="_blank"><strong>this one</strong></a> that starts in a few short days.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA8XpSrhH_Dj6KYstpTtSgPteNWFMPeX0D4DZS1Tudz0t_oCVFQTn39muCvrjJUDZpitW66V2lU_XVdXnVX_5ub_-_S22tAtSQRXLIzn1RVS_fnjZGArvex-xQ9XZ7c0ZPrd_2R7V3gmq-/s667/PhonePhotographyBanner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="116" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA8XpSrhH_Dj6KYstpTtSgPteNWFMPeX0D4DZS1Tudz0t_oCVFQTn39muCvrjJUDZpitW66V2lU_XVdXnVX_5ub_-_S22tAtSQRXLIzn1RVS_fnjZGArvex-xQ9XZ7c0ZPrd_2R7V3gmq-/s320/PhonePhotographyBanner.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think that phone photography can be fantastic and I can't wait to learn some new tricks for taking better shots. I agree with their mantra that the best camera is one you carry with you. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm also taking a fun 'multi photo' layout class. I, like so many of you, have more photos than I know what to do with. So I've decided to find additional ways to get more of my pictures on the page. I could always have them reprinted to a smaller size but I'd like to find ways to use the ones I already have on hand.<br />
<br />
Last but not least, I'm thinking of signing up for <a href="http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/kidding-around-4.php" target="_blank"><strong>this one</strong></a>. I'm hoping I can find one or two projects that will keep the kids busy. That promise to bust the bordom is too much to pass up. I'll let you know how it goes!!</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTedETEssH1-YSwlbv6JEHm2bpe2FoVckBEay5j_3pyk1TlckyLgqcMOWIianzIUxCXMP_mn0vBXyiW3TLwsAjk81aANVwRaqkn_en4gwb2WHE4WFEKhHmdQmGBmCkcU5H6jGdTYBPWhPD/s667/KiddingAround4Header.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="164" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTedETEssH1-YSwlbv6JEHm2bpe2FoVckBEay5j_3pyk1TlckyLgqcMOWIianzIUxCXMP_mn0vBXyiW3TLwsAjk81aANVwRaqkn_en4gwb2WHE4WFEKhHmdQmGBmCkcU5H6jGdTYBPWhPD/s320/KiddingAround4Header.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
</div>
<div>
So be sure to visit in the coming weeks as I post pics of the results. And who knows, I might just sneak in a class or two with what I've learned!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Enjoy</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdoajV-5FAOn5odappsyG0-HnefgjbbPWhO7uxWwm921-wORO9phi-aPH7efp246nC7_tsRHstJfN9p9EuWcbWW8GCBqsoG186jHZEj8FVU4rn6BsCq1NIiOhqyF2fsSRDvSP1R8ZczfDF/s1600/Stamping+Gear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdoajV-5FAOn5odappsyG0-HnefgjbbPWhO7uxWwm921-wORO9phi-aPH7efp246nC7_tsRHstJfN9p9EuWcbWW8GCBqsoG186jHZEj8FVU4rn6BsCq1NIiOhqyF2fsSRDvSP1R8ZczfDF/s1600/Stamping+Gear.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
To be honest, when I first saw the tool last summer, I didn't really give it much attention. We had a cardboard stand set up at the front of the Michael's store filled with wheels and cogs and cling stamps. The outside of the stand was covered in images of what looked like a new version of the Spirograph set I had as a kid. Remember those?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_aAYxq-aAYoYQrKLPw4Bs4qEhcY9ZO-Z6xfO4NdJx_O-qxARPtAfkJ8jgAi_6SuD3CHPPdHaQelMXfLMjACVtUycmw9tcodv8jExlFd0iJZdhnvr4ly82hdvxi_EiPMsY7gilGVuH9Lss/s1600/Spirograph.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_aAYxq-aAYoYQrKLPw4Bs4qEhcY9ZO-Z6xfO4NdJx_O-qxARPtAfkJ8jgAi_6SuD3CHPPdHaQelMXfLMjACVtUycmw9tcodv8jExlFd0iJZdhnvr4ly82hdvxi_EiPMsY7gilGVuH9Lss/s1600/Spirograph.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
When the Stamping Gear class appeared in the list being offered this quarter I knew I was going to have learn the ins and outs of how it worked. A few weeks ago I spent a few hours on a Saturday afternoon playing with stamps and inks getting the hang of it all.<br />
<br />
It didn't take that long to create some interesting patterns and shapes. Mixing images and blending the colours created even more intricate results. I stamped on cardstock, patterned paper and canvas, all with their own subtle differences. I quickly fell in love!<br />
<br />
Check out the video below for a quick introduction to Stamping Gear if you haven't seen it in store. Oh, and be sure to turn on your speakers, there's some toe-tapping, smile forming, head-bobbing music....I love it!! LOL!!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
During class we'll create both open and closed designs with the wheels and cogs. We will alternate colours and layer images. Techniques will range from basic to more advanced for those wanting to push themselves and break out of a comfort zone.<br />
Finished samples can be used as cards or also as embellishments on scrapbook layouts. <br />
<br />
Visit the <b><span style="color: #cc0000;"><a href="http://www.thekitcompany.ca/pages/learn.htm" target="_blank">LEARN</a></span></b> page on <span style="color: #cc0000;"><b><a href="http://www.thekitcompany.ca/" target="_blank">The Kit Company</a></b></span> website for class dates and details.<br />
<br />
** Note: you don't have to purchase the Stamping Gear tools prior to class, feel free to use the one in the classroom first!<br />
<br />
Enjoy,<br />

<br />
The first lesson was using gesso. To prep cardstock for water colour, to 'tone down' patterned paper, to create a 'home' for journaling. <br />
<br />
Here we were encouraged to use gesso on Cardstock and then Gelato water colour sticks. The gesso makes the Gelatos blend able. Then the fun part of removing the colour with stencils and a baby wipe!! <br />
<br />
I loved this! The look is different from my normal style but that's what I was looking for, something to take me out of my comfort zone. I'm still not quite finished (and its already week two) but after I add my photo, a few embellishments and story, I'll be done. <br />
<br />
First photo is stitching the smaller sheet of Cardstock on top of the larger. Plus adding in some texture with the flocked border up the side. <br />
<br />
Second photo is the Gelato sticks, think Chapstick like tubes of yummy watercolour, scribbled on the gesso covered Cardstock. <br />
<br />
Third photo is after the Gelatos have been blended. Blending was easy with clean dry paper towel. <br />
<br />
Fourth photo is after the colour is removed with a baby wipe. I used a fern stencil as well as a butterfly. <br />
<br />
I can't wait to show you more!! <br />

I guess that's how I have to look at the little bit of chaos that has erupted in my scrap room. <br />
<br />
Packing up for our retreat weekends means my studio is turned upside down - stripped of my red metal shelves, boxes of embellishments and bins of paper. There is nowhere to put stuff. Last minute kitting means there's paper and embellishments all over the floor (and the hall, and our bed....). It means tippy-toeing through the land mine of piles. <br />
<br />
The glass half full point of view would remember that it's also a great time to purge my stash. Clean out the things I don't use or don't want any more. We offer a Garage Sale table during our weekends so now would be an excellent time to shed some excess. <br />
<br />
It's also a good time to evaluate how I use my space and perhaps move some things around. For a while now, I've thought I'd like to move my work table away from the wall so I could work from both sides - maybe even raise the height a little. <br />
<br />
Good things can come from a little chaos, and a 'glass half full' kinda girl would see it just that way. {wink}<br />

If you have been playing along all year make sure you remember to take your 12 photos tomorrow. If you haven't been playing along take 12 photos anyway!! Jackie and I spent the afternoon with some very awesome ladies.<br />
<br />
Jackie outdid herself once again with the snacks. Trying to decide which was my favourite? The veggie and dip shooters - or the chocolate chip & toffee cookie dough dip with pretzels? Its a tough pick!! <br />
<br />
As promised, I'll be posting dates and times for upcoming classes real soon. Keep your eye on our class calendar for updates and sneak peeks!!<br />
<br />
Let the Holiday Season officially begin!!<br />
<br />
Enjoy,<br />

This month, the 12th was a Monday. I'm not a big fan of Monday's - truth be told, it's probably my least favourite day of the week. Knowing this and the fact we had a pretty busy schedule I took some photos the day before, on the 11th. Lucky for me, the weather was almost identical so it's quite possible that all these <u>could</u> have been taken on the 12th! But that will be our little secret!! {wink}<br />

Not knowing what I was going to do with my photos this month I had them printed in both the 4x6 and 4x6 'two up' size like I've printed in the past. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Looking for inspiration, I flipped through the previous layouts I've completed for the Take Twelve Challenge and was instantly drawn to the very first one I did about loving the colour Red. I decided to copy it. It made cropping photos to the right size really easy, although I will admit it took me some time to figure out which photo to use where. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I sanded the edges of all the photos before adhering them on the ledger style background paper. I do this almost all the time, as I really like how it makes them pop off the page.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I searched for a sticker pack that had almost all the letters I needed for my title. Missing the R and T, I rummaged through my bins of chipboard and found what I needed. A little Shabby Shutters (green) Distress ink brought them to life. A white Signo pen was used to trace around the letters, making them pop off the dark background, just like the photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
I needed some colour. So I searched my colour bins in green, yellow and orange looking for bits I could add as clusters to the layout. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
The yellow measuring tape was a find at Fabricland a year or so ago. The green scroll was a die cut title that said "Father". I trimmed it in half and covered the part I didn't want to show with the scrap of orange paper I punched with the notebook hole punch. Once layered, I knew the clusters needed a bit more detail and interest, so I grabbed some brown floss and added some simple stitching. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finished the layout with a few journal strips that told a simple version of the story....and called it done!!</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
What about you? Are you taking the Take Twelve Photo Challenge? Have you finished your layout yet? </div>
</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: left;">
Enjoy,</div>

<br />
Just never enough hours in a day to do the things I want to do. <br />
<br />
Don't get me wrong, there's more than enough time for laundry and the day just slugs along during meetings at the office but when it comes to 'play' time there is never enough.... Am I right? <br />
<br />
So, I've been working on a few things these past few weeks. Setting up classes at the ol' Kit Company Headquarters for one. <br />
<br />
The sneak peeks below are from a class I'm looking at hosting in the next week or so. It seems Thursday night is a popular choice.... and you know how I aim to please. {wink}<br />

Loads going on around here. Two amazing retreat weekends back to back, the prep before and clean up after, then hit with a cold. Sigh..... <br />
<br />
Wanted to post these photos of the paper fruit we created for one of the make and takes during our weekends. <br />

Thinking of hosting these as a class next month. If you're interested let me know what night works best.<br />
<br />
$10 covers all the supplies - leave with a pear, apple, or pumpkin!! (Or why not all three!!) <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbJfg19f5Z2nQ1rfgIyUOMhn7gOms2KvF9T1GiM_UmBws4C4ZmZwm5PgbZLdKbDKmnXK3b0FFy7gBVhue5U1UY1B4pA1Q1U_pFzDo5IZe_-Kp7AE9HE16jmbK4tF6QWS9pSTQvVt3DFs_-/s640/blogger-image-1936904861.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbJfg19f5Z2nQ1rfgIyUOMhn7gOms2KvF9T1GiM_UmBws4C4ZmZwm5PgbZLdKbDKmnXK3b0FFy7gBVhue5U1UY1B4pA1Q1U_pFzDo5IZe_-Kp7AE9HE16jmbK4tF6QWS9pSTQvVt3DFs_-/s640/blogger-image-1936904861.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3dQpk7h8FKL4Q9TwtljrMMDPTsM9CYZ3LSbBqxgZl4O12CpdaNKxklWXEu-QYvUM6SRMH-0hLHyA8nydNdfokrvYh-3IkVN8zQJV2r-oKF3gkE5hHsmLFxmRFi2386Da5Bym1_q0KED5s/s640/blogger-image-1987274293.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3dQpk7h8FKL4Q9TwtljrMMDPTsM9CYZ3LSbBqxgZl4O12CpdaNKxklWXEu-QYvUM6SRMH-0hLHyA8nydNdfokrvYh-3IkVN8zQJV2r-oKF3gkE5hHsmLFxmRFi2386Da5Bym1_q0KED5s/s640/blogger-image-1987274293.jpg" /></a></div>Janette Carterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11994146363562721758noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5446262436554793874.post-7328201227960309942012-09-21T19:29:00.006-07:002012-09-21T19:29:59.373-07:00Take Twelve in SeptemberIt's <a href="http://www.ellapublishing.com/blog/elizabeth-dillow/september-take-twelve-roundup"><strong>Take Twelve Round Up Day</strong></a> over at <a href="http://www.ellapublishing.com/"><strong>Ella Publishing</strong></a>!! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are some FANTASTIC layouts created by Take Twelve Team Members this month. I think my favourite has to be <a href="http://scrapinspired.com/2012/09/loving-life-take-twelve/"><strong>Monica's layout</strong></a> - I just love baker's twine zig zagging down the page - don't you!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And did you read <a href="http://likethecar.blogspot.ca/2012/09/take-12-project-september-12.html"><strong>Van's story</strong></a> about no rainbows without rain? I'm not sure I could handle everything she's been through this month! </div>
<br />
Although my layout wasn't featured this month (we're all taking turns and I was featured last month) you can see my layout and photos below.<br />
<br />
As mentioned in <a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2012/09/take-twelve-tomorrow.html"><strong>this post</strong></a> I decided to follow along with the <a href="http://www.ellapublishing.com/catalog/ella-fun/take-twelve-guided-inspiration-kit"><strong>Guided Inspiration Kit</strong></a> checklist and take my photos of my/our daily routine.<br />
<br />

I used the <a href="http://www.ellapublishing.com/catalog/ella-fun/take-twelve-guided-inspiration-kit"><strong>Guided Inspiration Kit</strong></a> again for my layout. I based the photo arrangement and the journal block on a sketch offered in the guide. <br />
<br />
My photos were slightly smaller so I was able to add a decorative strip down the right and still have a margin of background paper before the edge. <br />

<br />
I've been following a new art blog for a few months and absolutely LOVE some the techniques shared. One of my favourites is using the embossing folders as stamps, so I decided to give it a try. <br />
<br />
For the background I started off with a basic grid patterned paper (from We R Memory Keepers I believe) and added some yellow green distress ink in splotches around the two pages. <br />
I used a few light squirts of the Distress spray in a darker colour on the embossing folder, then flipped it over and pressed it into the paper. <br />
<br />
You can see where some of the spray is a bit heavier (the first press) and some lighter (a second and third press). I found the hardest part was trying to keep from getting a straight edge print from the side of the template.<br />
<br />
I love how it looks though. I will certainly be trying this technique again!!<br />
<br />

<br />
The title was a similar trick I used in <a href="http://thekitcompany.blogspot.ca/2012/08/guest-designer-reveal.html"><strong>this 'Beautiful' layout</strong></a> where I trimmed the outline of the negative space left from the letter to create another letter. I like how you can see the background through the outline. <br />
<br />
The second part of the title was created with a ancient alpha sticker set that was almost the same colour as the background. To make it pop off the page I outlined the whole thing in black marker. Same with the 'typical' title. A little black marker goes a loooong way. <br />
<br />
And have you heard the big news? Ella Publishing is now part of Big Picture Classes!! More on this soon!!<br />
<br />
Enjoy,<br />
